Title: How to Survive Teaching – A Conversation About Skills and Strategies for Teacher Resilience

Description: Teacher attrition rates are a serious concern around the world. There are many reasons why teachers choose to leave – and some promising reasons to stay. In this presentation, I will share some research into teacher attrition and teacher resilience, and I will ask you to share your experiences – whether as a novice or a veteran teacher. Together we can find ways to support and take care of the person who takes care of everyone else in the classroom: you.

Bio : Philippa Parks is an assistant professor in the Départment de Pédagogie at the Université de Sherbrooke. Her research looks at how English language teachers build self-efficacy and resilience and their professional identity during teacher education. Philippa is actively involved in several research and professional associations including the Société pour le Promotion de l’enseignement d’anglais au Quebec (SPEAQ) and the Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers (CASLT). She leads workshops for teachers at the annual conferences every year on topics including challenges during the practicum experience, project based learning, differentiating teaching in the language classroom, and critical media literacy skills to students.

We hope you are able to attend both the presentation and AGM portions of the AGM.
