UNB Belonging Conference
There has been a lot of great discussion already this week among TESL NB members and other community members around diversity, equality and equity for all.
The Fredericton PRIDE Parade on Sunday, August 13th was a great start to the conversation, uniting many teachers and students from around the Greater Fredericton and Oromocto areas in a walk for equality. This PRIDE parade has followed many others in different communities around New Brunswick that have already happened this summer.
Today, August 14th, was the start of UNB Fredericton's Belonging Conference. Today's keynotes, provided by Dr. Blye Frank and Dr. Jan Stewart, were insightful and inspiring on the topic of belonging for all students. Concurrent presentations offered attendees further learning on working with students from war-affected backgrounds, land-based learning, creating a sense of belonging through language used in the classroom, and more. Hope to see you at UNB Fredericton campus tomorrow, where we will learn from keynotes presented by Dr. Roma Chumack-Horbatsch and Tammy Strong, as well as more concurrent presentations, offering something for everyone interested in creating safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive classrooms. @tesl_nb will be tweeting throughout the day if you can't make it in person.
